Puneet Issar: Today’s TV shows have no recall value

Puneet Issar, best known for his role of Duryodhan in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, was in town to perform at the recently-concluded Jairangam Theatre Festival. Puneet reprised the role of Raavan in the play, titled, Raavan Ki Ramayan.
Talking about his performance, Puneet said, “People in Jaipur are culturally aware. Unlike the other plays, this play was composed in verses, which could have a bit difficult to understand.But it was great to see the audience applauding, isse samajh aata hai ki Jaipur ke log bhasha ko samajhte hain. I had a great time performing here.”

“We have been showcasing this play across the country since August and before coming to Jaipur, we performed the play in Pokhran. We also showed it in Delhi on November 12, three days after the announcement of demonetization. We were sceptical whether people will turn up for the show or not, but, to our surprise, 70% of the auditorium got occupied,” he shared.
Writing has deteriorated in Today’s TV shows
Disappointed with the writing of today’s TV shows, Puneet said, “During my time, we used to take six days to shoot one episode. Aajkal ek din mein do episode shoot ho rahe hain. Isse quality toh kharab hogi hi. Technically we have improved, but the writing has deteriorated. Mahabharat came in 1988, but people still remember my character of Duryodhan. This is not the case with today’s TV shows, they have no recall value.”

Puneet, who was a Bigg Boss inmate in season 8, talked to us about this season’s contestants, “Iss baar contestants kuch jyada hi homework karke aaye hain. Ye karenge, toh votes milenge. Woh karenge, toh show ko masala milega. They don’t come across as real people.”
