The Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB) will set up the first waste-to-energy plant in Shimla.

This was stated by Kuldeep Singh Pathania, chairman, HPPSCB, during the annual function of the Government Senior Secondary School at Samote in Bhattiyat subdivision of Chamba district on Friday.

He said the plant would process 70 tonnes of garbage on daily day to generate power. At present, 50 tonnes of waste is generated everyday in Shimla.

The remaining would be collected from the city’s suburbs. He said the plan would be executed in other towns of the state too.

He said over 10 detailed project road reports would be finalised within the next three months to strengthen road network in Bhattiyat. He also said the primary health centre at Samote would be upgraded.

Pathania gave away prizes to meritorious students and announced Rs 21,000 for the school.
