AGRA: After Congress workers used
‘Pundit’ Rahul Gandhi posters to welcome the party vice-president in Mathura, in neighbouring Etah district, highly enthusiastic BJP workers have put
up posters of
Amit Shah suffixing 'Jain' to his name to woo voters of the community in the district.
On Saturday, poster were set up at GT road near Nagar Palika office, but the fear of being accused for banking on caste-based politics in upcoming elections, on Sunday led the party workers to hide the ‘Jain’ with duct tape.
The BJP president is expected to visit Etah on December 16.
Speaking to TOI, Pankaj Chauhan, district coordinator of BJP’s Parivartan Yatra, said, “It was work of highly enthusiast party workers who suffixed ‘Jain’ to Amit Shah’s name, though it was not to woo the local Jain community. The Jain community in Etah district has always supported BJP and moreover, our party does not believe in caste-based politics.”
Dinesh Vashishtha, Etah unit BJP president, said, “Our party believes in development politics not in caste-based politics. The party worker who suffixed ‘Jain’ with Amit Shah name has been expelled from the party.”
Taking dig at the BJP's claim of not banking on caste politics, Pradeep Kansal, vice president of UP Congress Committee and head of Agra division, said, “The BJP foundation has been on caste-based politics. They always have had double standard in their approach. Suffixing ‘Jain’ with Amit Shah name is clear indication as to how BJP has planned out its caste-based politics strategy in the state to communities.”
