Michael Hoey shares 37rd spot at Alfred Dunhill Championship after closing 75

Michael Hoey finished in a share of 37th place at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa after a closing three-over-par 75.

Hoey looked on course for a top-25 finish but double bogeyed the 15th and dropped another shot at the next.

The five-time European Tour winner was playing on a sponsor's invitation after losing his tour card this season.

Hoey will get a number of tour starts in 2017 but is also likely to play on the second-tier Challenge Tour.

The Galgorm Castle touring professional mixed three birdies with as many bogeys over his opening 14 holes on Sunday before his disappointing finish.

Wicklow man Paul Dunne shared 28th place after a closing 72 at Leopard Creek.

Overnight leader Brandon Stone clinched a seven-shot victory after firing a closing 67.

Stone, 23, finished ahead of compatriot Richard Sterne with Belgian Thomas Detry a further two strokes back in third.

Pre-tournament favourite Charl Schwartzel was Stone's main challenger for most of the final round but a horror run which saw him dropping seven shots in four holes from the 13th ended his hopes.

Schwartzel eventually finished in a six-way tie for fourth spot, 10 shots behind Stone, as he signed for a 74.
