On a scale of 1 to 10 how satisfied are you with the quality of your lectures? What aspect are you most pleased about?

My rating would be 9. I like how friendly in approach lecturers tend to be when explaining. Leon Xuereb, BA English and Theatre Studies.

I’d approximately give them a 6. This is due to the high variability between the qualities of lectures in differing study units. Certain lecturers manage to engage students, using multimedia and interesting arguments, which is the factor that pleases me the most, yet others drone on about their subject matter without sparking an inkling of interest in his/her listeners. Usually a 9. Lecturers in my department had a knack for being very methodical and inclusive, so even if I wasn’t necessarily interested in the topic at hand, the lecture itself was still engaging. Jessica Arena, BA (Hons) English.

If you ever have cause for complaint regarding aspects of your course what would you do about it?

I would usually forward the matter to the respective student organisation which usually acts as a bridge between the students and faculties or departments on campus. Leon Xuereb

Being part of a student organisation at University, I can discuss such issues in the executive body and contact the appropriate people on the problem. In this way I represent a whole student body and work towards solving com­­plaints that may arise. Kurt Abela

Generally, overarching problems were dealt with very efficiently by student representatives and the faculty-based organisation in my department, but on a personal level I have always found lecturers to be understanding. Jessica Arena

If you had to change one thing about your University education, what would it be?

I would personally change the format of certain subjects within the Faculty of Arts, especially languages, to include more practice, because some are too research-based. Leon Xuereb

The psychology course is a very theoretically-based undergraduate course, and limits practical knowledge within the field. It doesn’t allow me to be in constant contact with people, which is a big drawback for my studies. Kurt Abela

There were times where I couldn’t always take the classes that I wanted to because of certain administrative structures imposed by the University, and instead had to take units I wasn’t as interested in, or didn’t consider pertinent to what I wanted to do with my degree. I would try to amend this so that it happens to students less often. Jessica Arena
