David Petraeus makes final push for Secretary of State

Former CIA director David Petraeus is going “All In” to try to join the Trump administration.

The Secretary of State hopeful will tangle with ABC This Week’s George Stephanopolous Sunday morning as the president-elect narrows down candidates for the most coveted position in his cabinet.

Petraeus, one of four finalists in the running to be the nation’s next top diplomat, is trying to resurrect his reputation after an FBI investigation found he gave classified notebooks to his biographer and mistress, “All In” author Paula Broadwell, four years ago.

She was seen walking her dog in North Carolina on Friday and participated as a marshal in an anti-KKK social justice march in Charlotte on Saturday.

Broadwell has been tweeting missives critical of the Trump administration with no mention of her former lover’s political fortunes.

“Since everyone is asking, I’d consider accepting Ambassador-at-large for Global Women’s Equality if asked,” she wrote sarcastically on Twitter last week.

Her former four-star general lover resigned from the CIA in November 2012, apologized to the Senate Armed Services Committee, and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of mishandling classified material last April.

But Petraeus could face tough questions about the consequences of his extramarital affair and whether he can be trusted with the nation’s secrets — and Team Trump will be eagerly watching his performance.

Secretary of State is one of several key positions Trump has not filled nearly a month after the election.

He also needs to appoint leaders to run the Interior, Agriculture, Labor, Housing and Urban Development, Energy, Veterans Affairs, and Homeland Security departments, Environmental Protection Agency, Small Business Administration and Office of Management and Budget.

No new appointments were announced Saturday as Trump Tower saw little action save for an afternoon delivery of the president-elect’s favorite snack, Jackson Hole Burgers.
