Riyadh – Mubasher: The works in Abha Regional Airport Project are in progress and have not stopped, General Director of Engineering Department, General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said.

The project will contribute to increasing the capacity of the airport to 13 million passengers instead of 1.5 million annually, Abdullah Alzahrani added to Al Madina Newspaper.

The expansion project will be implemented over three stages: the first is scheduled to finish by 2018, by then the airport's capacity will reach 7 million passengers, the official noted.

AlZahrani pinpointed that the second phase targets raising the capacity to reach 9 million passengers, so that it would reach 13 million annually by the third stage.

Jet bridges are also projected to increase to reach 36 bridges; the parking lots are expected to have space for 17,000 cars.
