An Assam Rifles jawan was killed including eight others were injured when the armed militants attacked an AR convoy in the Longding district of the eastern Arunachal Pradesh today. The condition of six out of eight jawans was stated to be critical.
The attack took place at around 20 km from the international border with Myanmar boyond where several other rebel groups of the Northeastern region are suspected to have their camps. The encounter took place at around 1:14 pm. As per the official source in Itanagar, the militants believed to be of the NSCN (K), ambushed the convoy between Wakka and Tissa, reported the Indian Express.
A combing operation was launched in the areas of Longding and Tirap districts on a large scale, bordering Myanmar soon after the ambush, informed the sources said. No official arrests were been made till the evening. No arrests had been made till late evening.
The aforementioned attack was carried out after a combined group of ULFA(I), NSCN(K) and UNLF militants triggered a massive ambush on a convoy of the Kumaon Regiment near Pengeri, close to the historic oil town of Digboi in Tinsukia district, which shares inter-state boundary with Arunachal Pradesh. Three jawans were reported to be killed in the attack.
The NSCN(K), ULFA(I), UNLF and NDFB(S), are touted to have their hideouts across the border in Myanmar, trapping the Longding and Tirap districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
