Patiala SSP tells HC: Neeta neither arrested nor detained

Punjab Police on Saturday made it clear before the Punjab and Haryana high court that Kulpreet Singh alias Neeta Deol, who had escaped from Nabha Jail on November 27, was neither arrested nor detained, rather he was still absconding.

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police on Saturday made it clear before the Punjab and Haryana high court that Kulpreet Singh alias Neeta Deol, who had escaped from Nabha Jail on November 27, was neither arrested nor detained, rather he was still absconding.
An affidavit in this regard was filed before the Punjab and Haryana high court by Patiala senior superintendent of police and member of a special investigation team (SIT) that is probing the jailbreak case, Gurmeet Singh Chauhan.

The affidavit from the Patiala SSP came in the wake of a petition filed by gangster Neeta’s father Surjit Singh. He also produced investigation file, signed by the ilaqa magistrate, related to the investigation of the case.
After going through the investigation details, Justice M M S Bedi returned the report to police. Justice Bedi also directed the Punjab police to again file a status report regarding the arrest of Neeta on December 19.
HC also clarified that in case of arrest of Neeta, he would be required to be produced before concerned magistrate as per the legal provisions.
Seeking direction to hand over the probe into the Nabha jailbreak case to CBI, Kulpreet’s father has expressed his fear in court that his son might be eliminated by the police in fake encounter.
In his petition, Neea’s father had sought issuance of directions to the of Punjab government to provide protection to him and his son. Directions have also been sought for ordering a thorough probe into the case.
