Qatar is one of Tunisia's strongest and most reliable friends, Ennahdha Party President Rached Ghannouchi has said.
In an interview with Qatar Tribune in Tunis, Ghannouchi said Qatar was instrumental in projection of a positive image of Tunisia on international platforms.
"We haven't found a single country in the world to have a problem with Tunisia. Much of credit for this goes to Qatar as it has always projected a good image and vision of our country and our people to the world. Qatar has been one of our strongest and most reliable friends. Qatar has supported all the different governments, as Tunisia has seen multiple transitions of power since 2011 from secularists to Islamists. Qatar is always there with us," Ghannouchi said.
Ghannouchi, whose Ennahdha Party is a part of the current coalition government in Tunisia, said that Qataris have been incredibly generous and supportive since their revolution.
"Before the revolution, the relationship between the two countries was all but cut off. After the revolution, Qatar has been an extremely important ally for us and we hope to continue to strengthen this relationship," he said.
"When Qatar presents millions to support Tunisia, it is not making a gift to a party but rather to the Tunisian government and administration, and we are happy to have Qatar as a partner and ally. We do not accept any foreign intervention in support of one party over another, but rather hope to build relationships between nations, between governments," he said.
