After chase, PSI shoots kidnapper who attacked him

VADODARA: A man accused of kidnapping two persons from Ahmedabad was shot at when he tried to attack a police sub-inspector (PSI), who was chasing him, at New VIP Road around 2.30 am on Saturday.
PSI B D Jilariya, posted at Kalupur police station in Ahmedabad first fired in the air and then shot Vadodara-based Krunal Machhi, who was rushing towards him with a knife, in the leg and injured him.
Machhi and his five other accomplices had allegedly kidnapped Saidul Shaikh, a resident of Millat Nagar in Ahmedabad and his employee Allauddin Shaikh on Friday. The accused called Saidul’s brother and demanded 400 gm gold to release the duo. Police said that the accused first asked Saidul’s brother to come to Nadiad and then near Amitnagar Circle in Vadodara with the gold.
“We arrested four accomplice of Machhi and rescued Allaudin during our watch at Amitnagar Circle. However, Macchi and one of his aides along with Saidul rode past us on a bike and we followed them in a car. As they were riding at a high speed, they slipped when we tried to stop them,” said Jilariya.
After falling Machhi got up and rushed towards Jilariya with a knife. First Jilariya warned him and even fired in the air but when Machhi did not stop, he shot him in the leg.
Seeing that police had shot Macchi, his aide Baharjaan alias Bappi Malik, who was on the bike with him, fled from the spot.
After the incident, the city police was informed and Machhi as well as Saidul were taken to SSG Hospital for treatment. Jilariya filed a complaint of attempt to murder against Machhi at Harni police station early on Saturday morning.
