The Kalupur police of Ahmedabad city Saturday arrested an accused in a case of abduction of two goldsmiths from the Amit nagar circle in Vadodara after a round of firing in the air and shooting the accused, Krunal Maachi, in the leg.
The incident occurred early on Saturday morning when Maachi was rounded up at Amit Nagar in Vadodara, but refused to surrender. The Kalupur police had been chasing Maachi since November 30 after two goldsmiths were abducted from Gandhi Road in Ahmedabad. The two goldsmiths — Saidul Shaikh and Alauddin Shaikh — were abducted after they finished their day’s work at a shop at Gandhi road, police said.
“We received a tip-off that Maachi was hiding with the two abducted goldsmiths in Vadodara. We laid a trap at Amit Nagar circle. Maachi arrived, riding a motorcycle with both Saidul and Alauddin accompanying him at the back. When we tried to stop them, the motorcycle slipped after Macchi lost control. But he refused to surrender. We had to shoot him in the leg to stop him from escaping,” an officer said.
