Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday ruled out the possibility of procuring any special aircraft for her safer journeys saying there is no scope in Bangladesh to go for such luxury at this moment.
“Any scope of showing luxury of having dedicated aircraft for president and prime minister is yet to come here for our country. It’s not necessary. I even don’t want it,” she said.
Hasina said she walks with common people and she does politics taking people along with her. “If I don’t feel secure while travelling on an aircraft used by our people, what is the point of having separate aircraft?”
Last week, the VVIP Biman aircraft carrying the prime minister to Hungary had developed a technical glitch raising her personal security concern.
Meanwhile, Hasina has ruled out the possibility of holding talks with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) over the formation of a new election commission.
“No talks can be held with a killer,” she said, adding, “BNP men have killed people by setting them on fire in line with the directives of the party chief Khaleda Zia.”
The premier asked BNP to remember what the party has done over the formation of election commission when it was in power.
Hasina, also the president of ruling Awami League (AL), said her party will accept whatever will be decided by the president over the constitution of a new election commission.
“She has given her proposal. She should go to the president. I will accept the decision whatever will be taken by the president,” Hasina said without maintaining any name.
Referring to procurement of the original Louis Kahn layout of the parliament secretariat, the prime minister evaded her reply when a questioner was hinting at the reported move of the government to remove the grave of slain president Ziaur Rahman from the parliament areas as it was not there in the American architect’s design.
Hasina said the design by Louis Kahn is of great educative and historical value. It will be preserved for enriching the profession of architects of the
country, she said.
As per Kahn’s design, the government secretariat housing all ministries will be located there while a big auditorium will be built, the prime minister pointed out.
