Riding high on success

Actor Mayuri Kyatari doesn’t want to rush into signing projects and wishes to work on only those films that have strong roles for her.

She began her career in the Kannada film industry with television serial, ‘Ashwini Nakshatra’ and became a household name. She swiftly moved onto the big screen with ‘Krishna Leela’, ‘Ishtakamya’ and ‘Nataraja Services’- all of which were received well at the box office. Her latest release, ‘Kariya 2’, will see her playing a tomboyish role.

Mayuri confesses that she has always been choosy about what she wants to work on.

“I don’t want to sign every project that comes my way because I want to be remembered for my work and I don’t want to be known as just another actor. I am glad that every project that I have worked on so far has offered me something different to do,” says Mayuri.

The actor has been busy with the promotions of ‘Kariya 2’ and posters of her riding a Bullet seems to have caught everybody’s attention.

“When the director mentioned that I had to ride a Bullet, I was a little apprehensive because I had only ridden a scooter so far. But towards the end of the shooting, thanks to a lot of practice, I became so confident that I would ride the Bullet with one hand,” she adds.

The actor says that she enjoyed playing her character because it projects a woman as a strong personality.

“My character is a bold one. I have many emotions to portray in the story and this has also made the role a special one,” she says.
About her costar Santosh, Mayuri says that although this is the first time she is acting with him, she didn’t feel any kind of pressure.

“It is important to have a good rapport with your costar because this helps better the performance. Santosh and I hit it off well right at the start. He speaks very little and prefers to let his work do all the talking,” she adds.

About how she feels a day before the release of her films, Mayuri says that she prefers to keep herself busy with promotions and not think about the outcome of the film.

“I have over the years learnt to calm down and take things as they come. I give every role my best shot and leave the rest to the decision of the audience,” she says. About how she handles flops, Mayuri confesses that she has been able to accept failures with grace.

“Thanks to a sound upbringing, I have been able to handle tough situations rather well without getting upset or worried,” she says with a smile.

About what keeps her going, Mayuri says that it is the urge to learn something new everyday and explore the actor in her that keeps her on her toes.“Everything new inspires me,” she signs off.
