Moradabad: BJP state chief Keshav Prasad Maurya told TOI that Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will not be able to “open their account” in western UP in the upcoming assembly elections.
"The public in western UP supported us in the Lok Sabha elections (of 2014) and with their support again, we will win more than 300 seats in UP polls,” said Maurya, who was in Moradabad for the Parivartan rally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Though BJP's earlier slogan was "UP mission 265+", the party has increased its target. Even the slogan on the stage for the Moradabad rally said that the mission of BJP is to get more than 300 seats in the assembly elections.
Maurya remarked that the large crowd gathered for the rally showed that “the bicycle of Samajwadi Party has broken into pieces, while the elephant of BSP has taken ill”.
Commenting on demonetisation, Maurya said, "Opposition parties are criticising the move as the money looted by them over the years has turned into mere pieces of paper. If they are protesting, it is not in the national interest."
Asked when the party’s list of candidates will be declared for UP polls, he said, "We will contest 90% of the elections on the basis of organization, and 10% on the basis of candidates. We will soon declare the list of candidates but will not change their names like BSP and SP."
Apart from Maurya, BJP state in-charge Om Mathur and Union minister Sanjeev Balyan were present in the rally.
