Keeping up its promise of coming up with job-oriented postgraduate degrees, the varsity has tied up with two industry majors – KPIT and Quickheal Technologies – to offer two new MTech programmes in automotive technology and information sciences. The courses, which will begin from January 2017, will have between 40-60 seats each. The candidates selected for the programme will receive funding for a project from the two companies.

Dr Aditya Abhyankar, dean of faculty of technology, said the courses were given the go-ahead in the recent Academic Council of the varsity. “The need for a course in information security has predominantly come from our IT partners. Today, we are talking about digital India and how digitisation is the way of the future. But it comes with its own share of issues and we need professionals, especially in the field of information security, in this age of digitisation. Information security includes security, cybernetics, forensics and so on… we have tied up with Quickheal Academy to design and deliver such a course,” he said.

As far as automotive technology goes, Abhyankar said while it was part of certain engineering degree courses, there was no full-fledged course on the subject. “In automotive technology, we discuss things like unmanned vehicles, hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles. These issues are intricately connected to pollution and other important subjects. This course, which we will conduct with KPIT, is very focussed, and is based on recent trends,” he said.

Candidates will need to have a bachelor of technology or bachelor of engineering degree, and the entrance examination will be held in the first week of January 2017.
