VIENNA, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Strong gusts reaching speeds of up to 140km/h caused problems in parts of Austria late Thursday evening and into Friday, local media reported.
The capital city and neighboring state of Lower Austria were the worst-affected, with fire brigade personnel having to deal with numerous instances of trees falling on power and telephone lines, as well as onto vehicles.
The winds also caused problems on parts of the highway and rail networks.
Other reported incidences included trees falling onto houses, and roof tiles and other objects blowing away.
The weather authority, the Central Institution for Meteorology and Geodynamics, said it expected the winds to begin to ease from midday Friday. Enditem
