Dehradun: Over 80,213 members of the All Uttarakhand Parents’ Association (AUPA) have threatened to vote against the
Congress government in the upcoming assembly elections after their demand of a bill to regulate private schools in the state was not taken up in the assembly session in November.
Earlier, in July, the association had demanded a bill that would pave the way for setting up of a board which acts as a regulatory body for private schools and other educational institutions in the state.
According to the AUPA, the government had assured them that the ‘Private Educational Institutes Admission, Fee Regulation and Complaint Redressal Bill 2016’ would be presented before the cabinet during the assembly session in November. The members said that the bill was not taken up in the session and the state government had ignored their demands.
At a press conference in the city,
Neeraj Singhal, president of AUPA, said, “We gave our suggestions to the state government long ago but looks like they have no intention of passing the bill.”
Singhal added, “The schools don’t listen to our grievances since they are not accountable to us. If the government does not do anything in this matter, we will not vote for it in the
upcoming elections.”
