NASHIK: The traffic police has formed special squads to take action against bikers who are found driving two wheelers without wearing helmets.
Jayant Bajbale, assistant commissioner of police of the city traffic department said, "We have formed different squads to focus only on bikers who are found riding vehicles without helmets. The special squads change their locations every day.
People are appealed to not ride bikes without helmets as a large number of accidents are reported in the city on a daily basis and many people get handicapped or get killed after suffering injuries on the head." Meanwhile, senior officials said that the action against bikers without helmet was started in Nashik recently and over the past few days they found that many two wheeler riders were wearing helmets. The rush for purchasing helmets in different stores was also rising apart from those buying them from the road sides.
Meanwhile, the huge penalty of Rs 500 for not wearing helmet is also one of the reasons due to which bikers are seen buying helmets than paying the fine to the police.
In Nashik a large number of bikers die in accident for not wearing helmet. In most cases, those getting killed are found in the age group of 20 years to 45 years.
