It’s time that the rationale and the thinking behind many of the interventions of the apex court, particularly in domain of public law, are understood, Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjan Gogoi today said.
His remark came in response to noted jurist Fali S Nariman’s observation that Indian jurisprudence is what the Supreme Court today says.
“Perhaps it is time that we build up on this and try and find out the rationale and law and the thinking behind many of the interventions of the apex court, particularly in domain of public law,” Gogoi said during a book launch function.
Earlier Nariman had said, “Judges not only interpret the law but also declare the law. A fine distinction that many members of the Parliament refuse to understand for generation. The law declared by the Supreme Court are not only binding on all courts within the territory of India, all authority, civil and judicial, must act in aid of the Supreme Court.”
While launching the book ‘Jurisprudence Explained’ written by Hijam N K Singh, Justice Gogoi said the author has served as the Advocate General of Manipur.
The book, published by Universal Law Publishing, was launched here in an event also attended by senior advocate Ajit Kumar Singh, the vice president of Supreme Court Bar Association.
