Process to cancel a power of attorney made cheaper and easier

Saturday, 3 December 2016, 16:36 Last update: about 8 years ago

Cancelling a power of attorney will now be cheaper and could be done within a shorter time-frame, Justice Minister Owen Bonnici has said.

Through recent regulations, cancelling a power of attorney can now be done online.

Minister Bonnici said that the cost to terminate a power of attorney was around €1,500 to €2,000 and took a long time as one had to send an official letter notifying all notaries in Malta and Gozo as well as all commercial banks. "This process has been simplified and will now cost a total of €50".

Dr Bonnici, said that now a power of attorney can be removed by filling out a simple form. This form will be processed by the office of the Government Notary within a period of 24 hours, and it will be published in the online registry.
