NOIDA: The traffic police and civil police created two green corridors to transplant a live heart and a kidney of a brain dead person to recipients in two private hospitals of Noida and Delhi.
Two Innovas of the traffic police were deployed for the corridors and three PCR teams worked to ensure that traffic remains smooth as the ambulances transport the two organs.
Forty-year old Satish Tawde, an equipment specialist with Dupont, Mumbai, was declared brain dead on Saturday morning following which his family gave consent for the transplant.

Tawde was referred to the Jaypee Hospital from Holy Family Hospital of Delhi, Sector 128 and his wife Siddhi was intimated about the possibility of his being brain-dead, doctors at the Jaypee Hospital said.
“He was in a state of half-coma when he arrived at the hospital around 1 am on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday. A team of doctors examined him twice at 3:00 am in the wee hours and 9:00 am on Saturday. On the second examination, he was declared to be brain-dead,” Dr. Amit Devra, senior consultant, kidney transplant told TOI.
While Tawde’s heart was donated to a patient in Max Hospital, Saket, his kidneys were transplanted to two patients, one in Fortis Hospital, Sector 62, Noida and the other in Jaypee Hospital, itself.

The live heart travelled 32 kilometers to reach the recipient in Max Hospital via the green corridor in 25 minutes. Its journey began around 4:30 pm.
One of his kidneys travelled to the Fortis Hospital through the second 16 kilometer long green corridor created around 5 pm.
The second kidney was transplanted to a 55-year-old diabetic patient, who was on dialysis for the past two years in Jaypee Hospital. Tawde’s liver was transplanted to a 39-year old patient suffering from liver cirrhosis and suffered repeated liver failures.
The cornea of the deceased’s eyes has been preserved by the eye bank.
