Mumbai, Dec 3: After the announcement of demonetisation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at least 12 Naxalites have surrendered in Maharashtra. The surrender has come due to cash crunch and by surrendering they will be entitled to compensation and rehabilitation as per the policy of government.

A police official said a commander of a dalam gets around Rs 8 lakh, a deputy commander Rs 6 lakh and a member Rs 3 lakh under the rehabilitation policy of the government.

This year around 45 Naxalites have surrendered to the police in the state.

A police officer said, at present surrendering is the best option for a Naxalite because they will be benefitted by the government and can lead a normal life with their families and this is better than fighting in the jungles where there is no gurantee of life. (as reported by DNA)

Police has set up a ‘surrender colony’ in Gadchiroli where they will be given jobs. At present it consists of 40 people.

Naxalites involved in non-serious crimes will be let off from the cases against them and those involved in heinous crimes will too be entitled for compensation after their case is studied and judgement will take place quickly.
