MP Janet Nangabo decries rising cases of early marriages

Woman Representative Janet Nangabo has decried the high number of school drop-outs and early marriage among girls in Trans Nzoia.

Mrs Nangabo said many cases have been reported on villages along the Kenya-Uganda border, where schoolgirls are married off to men from the neighbouring country.

“Ugandan men are preying on girls from poor families,” she said. Mike Simiyu, a resident of Chepchoina, said schoolgirls are married off for between Sh20, 000 and Sh50,000. —Osinde Obare
