Arshiya Banu won the ladies’ title and Shreeyog Basnet clinched the junior category championship of the Qatar Airways Open Golf Tournament on Friday.KATHMANDU: Arshiya Banu won the ladies’ title and Shreeyog Basnet clinched the junior category championship of the Qatar Airways Open Golf Tournament on Friday. Banu scored 34 points to win the title, three points better than second-placed Pratima Sherpa. Played at the Gokarna Golf Course, Basnyat scored 14 points over the nines holes in the tournament played on a stableford format with 3/4 handicap. Hosts register double victory
KATHMANDU: Hosts Angels’ Heart HS School registered double victory in boys’ basketball under the sixth Angels’ Heart Sports Festival on Friday. Angels’ Heart ‘A’ defeated Nawodit School 20-13 after their ‘B’ team overcame Jeevan Jyoti 18-12 in junior boys. In another match, Valley Public overcame Fairyland 44-29. In the boys’ football, Rajan Memorial beat Times Academy 2-0. The matches between Angels’ Heart and Kaushal Secondary School, Dharma School and Maharshi School, Angels’ Heart ‘A’ and Maharshi ‘B’ ended on draws. (PR)
Pushpa Sadan, Neric triumph
KATHMANDU: Pushpa Sadan and Neric School won their respective boys’ basketball matches held under the 22nd Gyan Carnival on Friday. Pushpa Sadan hammered Sudesha School 46-6 and Neric beat Holy Vision 39-28. Also, Malpi International stunned hosts Gyanodaya 62-53. In girls’ basketball, Malpi, Awareness International Academy and Innovative registered victories. Gyanodaya were held to a 1-1 draw by Subhatara, Malpi edged Phoenix 1-0 and Pushpa Sadan and Sudesh played a 1-1 stalemate in football tournament. (PR)
New Diamond fete Mali
KATHMANDU: New Diamond Academy on Friday honoured its student and national volleyball player Pratibha Mali with cash rewards. The Academy feted Nepal No 1 spiker with Rs 25,000 for her fine performance in the Maldives National Volleyball League. Apart from her school, CA Member Shyam Shrestha also provided her with Rs 15,000. Mali has been one of the key figures in Nepali volleyball team who has been playing for New Diamond in domestic games since the age of 11. (PR)
Tiger Tops win Elephant Polo
NAWALPARASI: Tiger Tops Tuskers of Nepal clinched the 35th International Elephant Polo with a 8-5 win over Elephant Polo Gear of Iceland on Friday. Galloway Lodge, Sri Lanka finished third with a 6-4 win over Paul Griffins, USA. In all, eight teams represented by seven nations took part in the competition this year. (PR)
