A group of Qatar Foundation (QF) teachers have recently participated in a Qur'anic Botanic Garden (QBG) workshop to increase their understanding of plants and nature, and broaden teaching techniques related to the area.
The workshop, part of QBG's 'Interactive Awareness Program' 2016, focused on the plants of QBG, providing information on botany, horticulture, heritage and culture.
The teachers explored the amazing world of nature through QBG, and its connections to the traditions and heritage of Islam. The participants visited the QBG greenhouses and collected Mediterranean and desert plant clippings. They also stopped off in the glasshouse, which includes many tropical and semi-tropical plants that grow in a controlled and closely-monitored environment.
Vegetative propagation was another core subject at the workshop, with teachers taking part in brainstorming sessions using online applications relating to plant growth and life. Through the use of digital educational applications, QBG provided the teachers with an interactive exam, ensuring they were able to keep track of the workshop's objectives.
Basem Ahmed, a teacher at Qatar Academy Msheireb, said:"The QBG 'Interactive Awareness Program' was very insightful. It was great to see what QBG does and I really enjoyed the hands-on learning approach. The use of technology in the overview and explanation of QBG and its cultural significance was also very informative. The whole workshop was delivered in a simple and impactful way."
QBG also presented a short technical video on new advancements and latest techniques in global horticulture, as well as information on the centre's vision, mission, role, and educational programmes.
Salam Shabib, a teacher at Qatar Academy Al Wakra, noted:"I was delighted to be invited to QBG to learn about another side of QF that I didn't even know existed. It was eye opening and definitely something I will take back to my work to tell my fellow teachers and students about."
QBG, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), offers a variety of interactive workshops throughout the year targeting various sections of the community. This workshop was coordinated with QF's Pre-University Education (PUE) to support knowledge sharing and reinforce the importance of community involvement in the conservation of plant life in Qatar.
