Congress wants Amit Shah to declare account details of BJP, RSS from April 1 to November 9

“The actual amount deposited on November 7 and 8 in the account (of BJP Kolkata unit) is stated to be Rs 3 crore. Does it not prove that BJP had advance knowledge of demonetisation?” said Randeep Surjewala.

ALLEGING THAT the day demonetisation was announced, Rs 1 crore was deposited in the bank account of BJP’s Kolkata unit, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday challenged BJP national president Amit Shah to declare account details of his party and the RSS from April 1 to November 9.

Claiming that BJP had advance knowledge of demonetisation, Surjewala said, “The actual amount deposited on November 7 and 8 in the account (of BJP Kolkata unit) is stated to be Rs 3 crore. Does it not prove that BJP had advance knowledge of demonetisation?” He went on to cite details of the account.

“Moreover, as was the case in Bihar, land was also purchased by BJP leaders in 18 districts of Odisha a few months before demonetisation was announced,” he added.

Calling demonetisation a “scam” and demanding a probe by a joint parliamentary committee, Surjewala said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has plunged the country into a state of economic anarchy… I challenge Amit Shah to declare details of bank accounts of BJP, RSS and its wings. Instead of asking MPs, they should rather make account details of BJP and RSS from April 1 to November 9 public and declare the source of money deposited during this time.”

Alleging that rules and directives regarding demonetisation were changed 105 times in the first 19 days, Surjewala said: “The Prime Minister should apologise to not only 80 family members, who lost their kin due to the decision taken in haste, but also to the entire nation inside and outside Parliament.”

Festive offer

Surjewala said that instead of bringing back black money as claimed by Prime Minister during Lok Sabha election campaign in 2014, the Centre had increased the limit of foreign remittance from India, which had led to an outflow of about Rs 30,000 crore from the country in just one year before demonetisation was announced. “Jan Dhan accounts were also being used blatantly to convert black money… About 76 per of total such accounts had either zero balance or less than Rs 5 till now. But overnight, the deposits touched Rs 75,000 crore,” he added.

Referring to the Prime Minister as the “real benefactor and protector of black money holders”, Surjewala said that under Section 271 (1) ( C) (iii) of the Income Tax Act, anyone, who has been caught with black money would be liable to pay 132 per cent tax and penalty on black money caught. “Why is the PM helping them by reducing the rate of tax plus penalty from 132 per cent to 49.9 per cent now?” he asked.

“The Prime Minister only has time to speak at rock concerts and rallies, where no one can ask questions,” he said, adding that soon the note ban issue will be raised in the form of a “Vyapak Andolan” across the country.
