21-yr-old woman succumbs to burns after husband ‘sets her ablaze’

A 21-year-old woman, who was allegedly set on fire by her husband in Balajinagar area near Bhosari on Thursday morning, succumbed to her injuries on Friday

A 21-YEAR-old woman, who was allegedly set on fire by her husband in Balajinagar area near Bhosari on Thursday morning, succumbed to her injuries on Friday. Police said that the couple was having disputes since last few days and the incident on Thursday took place after the wife asked the husband for money to buy milk.

Bhosari MIDC police have identified the deceased as Rekha Jadhav and her husband as Shahaji Jadhav (26), both daily wage workers. Senior inspector Bhimrao Shingade of the police station said, “As per the primary information, the couple was found to be having frequent fights over domestic issues. On Wednesday morning too, they had a fight.”

Shingade added, “Rekha’s father had come home on Thursday morning to resolve the dispute. But after he left, Shahaji asked Rekha to make tea. When she asked him for money to get the milk, he poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.” Rekha was rushed to hospital by some neighbours and was admitted with 80 per cent burn injuries.

Shingade said, “She succumbed to her injuries on Friday. Before her death, we had registered her statement and based on the statement, an FIR had been registered. After Rekha’s death Shahaji has been booked for murder and has been arrested.”
