GREATER NOIDA: A man was killed and a few others were injured when a truck collided with their car due to low visibility on Dankaur-Sikandrabad road on Friday morning.
Suresh Chand (41), a resident of Mandi Shyam Nagar village in Dankaur, was returning from Meerut along with his neighbour Nirmala Sharma (55) and her four grandchildren in a WagonR when they met with the accident. While Suresh died on the spot, Nirmala suffered fractures in both her legs.
The four children were also injured, one of them seriously.
Mahesh Chand, Suresh’s brother, told TOI that their family and Nirmala’s family are neighbours in Mandi Shyam Nagar village. “Nirmala and her grandchildren had gone to attend a wedding in Meerut and Suresh accompanied them. They started from Meerut at 6.30am and were one kilometre away from Mandi Shyam Nagar when the accident occurred at 8am,” he said.
Arjun (14) and Karan (15) are the children of Anil Sharma, Nirmala’s elder son while Drishti (13) and Lakshita (9), who suffered minor injuries, are daughters of Mahesh Sharma, her younger son. Arjun suffered a fracture while Karan has a nose injury, Chand said.
The injured were taken to the government hospital in Dankaur.
The truck has been impounded while the driver is absconding, police said.
“We are trying to identify the truck driver. The accident occurred due to low visibility,” SO, Dankaur, Shailendra Pratap Singh said.
He said that an FIR had been lodged under sections 304A and 279 of the IPC and an investigation had been underway. “It was a foggy morning. However, we are trying to find out who was at fault,” he said.
According to the MeT department, the visibility was recorded at 300 metres at the Safdarjung observatory in Delhi at 8.30 am.
