Kolkata: Infant’s body recovered from garbage dump

The body of a newborn was recovered from a garbage dump in Malda’s English Bazar area on Thursday. Locals noticed the body and informed the police. It was later taken to the Malda Medical College for postmortem. Sources in the police said the body was found wrapped in a piece of cloth at the garbage dump.

“It is suspected that the baby may have been a victim of the newborn trafficking racket,” said a police officer. The incident comes a day after two newborns were recovered by the police in Cooch Behar.
