Tarn Taran, December 2

A woman — who was the victim in the Usman episode three years ago – along with her family members staged a dharna at the DC office here today. They were protesting against the police for its failure to take action against the persons responsible for threatening the victim’s family.

The woman was beaten up by the local city police in March 2013 when she was here to take part in a marriage function of a relative. The issue had become very hot on the international level at that time. That had forced the administration to take action against the erring policemen.

The victim’s family was provided CRPF cover on the orders of the Supreme Court.

The victim said that after her marriage, CRPF security was withdrawn. Some mischievous elements have been harassing her parents and other members of the family. She said that the family has brought the matter to the notice of the Sarhali police, but no action has been taken.

On the assurance of action by the police, the protesters lifted the dharna. — OC
