30,000 flowers to be on display at Hislop College show

NAGPUR: Hislop College will organize a two-day 13th annual flower exhibition with help of botany department on December 3 and 4 on the college campus. More than 30,000 blooms will be on display for the visitors. Chrysanthemum and annuals will be the centre of attraction at the show. The flower show will be free of cost and a section of flowers will be available for sale too.
As many as 98 varieties of flowers along with chrysanthemum and many seasonal flowers like marigold, dianthus, petunia, aster, roses, etc will be on display.

From the past experiences the organizers are expecting a large footfall for the show his year. They feel weekend dates will attract more people this time.
“It will be a riot of colours at this year’s exhibition, as there are flowers from various colours and creeds,” said Mousumi Bhowal of botany department. To instill love for nature in young minds, the hosts have decided to hold a drawing competition. More than 100 students have been invited to sit and draw the intricate facets of the exhibition. The drawings too will be displayed at the exhibition. Prizes will also be given to the winners.
Hislop College has been organizing the flower show for last 12 years. All the flowers on display have been grown organically by the botany department, with active support from teachers and students.
Along with Bhowal, Parama Majumdar, Sangeeta Sharma, Shivani Dongarwar, Meraj-ul-Haq along with garden staff have been working hard to make the show a success. Principal Dipti Christian and secretary of Hislop College Sudipta Singh have provided guidance from time to time.
