GURUGRAM: Starting December, consumers of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) will have to endure small, regular power outages, lasting 2-3 hours, to ensure they are not hit by bigger ones during winter. DHVBN has started pruning trees in the DLF subdivision, to ensure frost-laced branches don’t get entangled with power lines leading to power cuts, as is common during Gurgaon winters.

Supply will be cut in areas where the exercise will take place. Officials told TOI that during winters, frost on tree branches often touch power cables, leading to failures. “We’re trimming branches close to power lines,” said Kuldeep Nehra, DLF sub-divisional officer, DHBVN.
The department has released a week’s schedule of the exercise in Sushant Lok, which covers seven feeders. The entire exercise is likely to last for about a month, till all 45 feeders across the DLF sub-division are covered. The trimming will begin with Sector 43, affecting areas like Millennium Plaza, Laburnum society as well as HT lines of DLF Phase 2 during the first week of December. It will be extended to Sushant Lok 1, 2 and 3, and DLF Wellington Estate.
