This Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, photo shows the interior of the The Lucky Dragon Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Asian-themed property catering to Chinese gamblers and guest began operations Saturday, in what officials characterized as a soft opening, ahead of a Dec. 3 grand opening, KSNV-TV reported. It has become the first new casino-hotel to open in nearly six years along the Las Vegas Strip.

Despite there being no announcement, the Lucky Dragon opened last week, three weeks ahead of schedule. It’s being termed a “soft” opening, but the casino, bars, and all of the restaurants except one are operating, and rooms are available.

As expected, the resort is designed to attract the Asian market, with all signs displaying Chinese first, then English; restaurants featuring mostly Chinese fare; and 27 out of 40 table games dealing baccarat. There’s no craps, keno or bingo, and no sports book. Dec. 3 is still designated as the official opening.

Hockey name: The new NHL team in Las Vegas will be the Vegas Golden Knights. The name was announced with a lot of fanfare and a countdown last week. The team will begin play in 2017.

Elvis wins: Dressed in an Elvis Presley-style jumpsuit for the entire race, Michael Wardian won the Las Vegas Marathon and set a Guinness World Record for running the fastest marathon while dressed like Elvis. Also, more than 100 couples either got married or renewed wedding vows during the race.

Hard Rock to close: The Hard Rock Café on Paradise Road next to the Hard Rock casino will close Dec. 31. The company says it's a "strategic decision" that will allow it to focus efforts on the Hard Rock Café on the Strip. The Paradise Hard Rock opened in 1990.

Question: I read about a recent power outage at Paris Las Vegas. What happens to money in the slot machines when that happens?

Answer: It’s tracked internally, which allows the casino to give players back exactly what was in the machine at the point of the outage. It’s best if you wait by the machine to get a voucher from an employee proving that it was you playing it, but even if you don’t, you can be identified later via footage from the surveillance cameras. The only real problem is the inconvenience and time it takes to go through the verification.
