Everton and West Brom tracking Man United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin

Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is a target for Everton and West Bromwich Albion in the January transfer window, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.

Schneiderlin has found himself well down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season under Jose Mourinho, with the Frenchman making just two appearances in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old, who joined United from Southampton in the summer of 2015, could consider a move away in search of regular first-team football.

He has made just eight appearances in all competitions and with Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini battling for roles in the United engine room his opportunities look limited.

Everton and West Brom have both been monitoring Schneiderlin's situation and are prepared to offer him a way out if they get an encouragement that a deal could be struck.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman worked with the France international in his first season in charge of Southampton and is keen to take him to Goodison Park. West Brom are also in the market for a defensive midfielder in January and Schneiderlin figures highly on Tony Pulis' wanted list.

Mourinho could be tempted to cash-in on Schneiderlin when the transfer window reopens as he looks to create space within his squad for another central defender. That position is United's priority in the New Year, with Benfica defender Victor Lindelof reported to be top of the club's shopping list.
