2016 Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup: Indian women's team bowls out Nepal for record low 21; sets up final date against Pakistan or Sri Lanka

New Delhi: Indian women's team hardly makes news, until unless something really big or bad happens. That's the plight of women's cricket in the game's biggest market.

But on Friday, Harmanpreet Kaur & Co did the unthinkable by bowling out Nepal for a record 21 runs in their last game of the 2016 Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup at Bangkok.

After posting 120/5 in their stipulated 20 overs, India bowled out their opponents in just 16.3 overs with off spinner Anuja Patil taking three wickets in his spell of 3.3 overs.

India thus maintained a perfect record in this edition, and already qualified for the December 4 final.

Interestingly, the same Nepalese team was also bowled out for 23 runs by Sri Lanka in the sixth match of the ongoing tournament. Both these scores are the lowest team totals in the history of women’s T20.

In the final, India are likely to play either Sri Lanka or Pakistan, depending on the results from the last two matches – against Bangladesh and Thailand respectively.

India have defeated both the teams in the previous matches. On November 29, in a tie which was threatened by diplomatic uncertainties, India handed Pakistan a last over five-wicket defeat.

And yesterday, India humiliated Sri Lanka by 52 runs to register their fourth successive win.

Six Asian teams are taking part in the tournament, being played Asian Institute of Technology ground, Bangkok.
