Shakira received a Golden Award for best international Latin artist at last night’s (Dec. 1) LOS40 Awards in Barcelona, during a show that brought Spanish stars, Latin American chart-toppers and international artists together to celebrate the year’s radio hits.
The 50th anniversary edition of the awards show presented by Los 40 Principales, Spain’s No. 1 radio station, featured almost 20 performances, J Balvin, David Bisbal, Robbie Williams, Maluma, Maná, Juanes and Jason Derulo among them. The show was held at Palau St. Jordi and broadcast live in 21 Latin American countries.
Shakira’s ubiquitous feel-good collaboration with Carlos Vives, “La Bicicleta,” also took home a special Golden Award for best song. Other 50th anniversary honors went to Williams, Maná, Juanes and Michael Bublé.

Leiva, a pop-rock singer/songwriter from Madrid whose latest album, Monstruos, yielded his first No. 1 radio hit, was the unexpected winner for artist of the year, chosen from a field of nominees that included Enrique Iglesias and fellow Spanish pop star Manuel Carrasco.
Carrasco triumphed in the record of the year category, while “Tu Enemigo,” a duet performed by rising Spanish singer Pablo López and Juanes, scored song of the year. J Balvin won the title for best Latin artist.
Sia was named international artist of the year, beating out Justin Bieber, Adele and Jennifer Lopez; Bieber took record of the tear for “Purpose.” French DJ Kungs, known for his radio hit (with Australia’s Cookin’ on 3 Burners) “This Girl,” was named best new international artist.
Pop icon Miguel Bosé accepted the Golden music award for career achievement. Over four decades, Bosé has had 19 radio No. 1s, more than any other Spanish artist.
A percentage of ticket sales from the awards show, which coincided with World AIDS day, will benefit the Barcelona-based foundation Asociación Lucha Contra el Sida, for whom Bosé presided over the annual AIDS gala that this year took in over €1 million ($1.06 million).
