Punjab Congress on Thursday demanded immediate arrest of the accused involved in the attack on one of their leaders
Major Singh Mullanpur who is a ticket aspirant from Dakha assembly constituency. Mullanpur was attacked by five assailants on Wednesday evening who were armed with sharp-edged weapons and beat him up mercilessly before fleeing from the spot, leaving congress leaders severely injured who was then rushed to
DMC hospital.
Terming the assault as symptomatic of the lawlessness prevailing under the Badal regime in the state, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) leaders Ravneet Bittu, Gurdev Singh Lapran and Jasbir Singh Khangura, in a statement issued today, said that the heinous incident reflected the total brazenness with which armed gangsters were having a free run of the state, with the patronage of the Akali government.
The leaders termed attack on Mullanpur, allegedly to be the handiwork of the Akalis, and accused MLA Manpreet Singh
Ayali of conspiring against him. Meanwhile Ayali could not be contacted for his take on the allegations levelled by the congressmen against him.
