Kerala: Football tiff takes teen's life

Indian Union Muslim League called for a dawn to dusk hartal in protest against the murder.

Kozhikode: A 19-year-old youth was allegely stabbed to death on Thursday, following verbal clashes over a football match held in Mooladakkam in Kasargod. Abdul Khader A.K. (19), son of Yousaf A.K., Povval, was seriously injured and died at a hospital in Chenkala. Two of his friends, Siyad Povval and Abdul Sathar were also injured. According to the investigation officer Adhur SI Santhosh Kumar A., some of the schoolchildren in Mooladakkam area played football in a ground nearby and some of the elders interfered and allegedly beat up some of the children. Tension was prevailing in the area for the past few days.

A group from Povval and another from Bovikkanam engaged in verbal clashes on Thursday evening, which led to the stabbing. Police is searching for one Naseer from Bovikkanam and his friends, who are suspected to have stabbed Abdul Khader. No one has been arrested yet. Indian Union Muslim League called for a dawn to dusk hartal in protest against the murder. The IUML also alleged that the CPM was behind the murder. Abdul Khader was planning to travel to the Gulf on Friday.
