MLA A N Shamseer appeals against sentence

On Thursday, he filed a petition in Thalassery district sessions court pleading that the verdict was without ample evidence and independent witnesses.

Kozhikode: Thalassery MLA A.N. Shamseer has appealed against the verdict of Kannur First Class Judicial Magistrate Court sentencing him to three months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2000, for threatening police in a speech. On Thursday, he filed a petition in Thalassery district sessions court pleading that the verdict was without ample evidence and independent witnesses.

In his speech in July 2012 during an SP office march of SFI workers, Mr Shamseer had said that Kannur DySP P. Sukumaran would face the same fate of Mr Subbaraya, the officer who was stoned and drowned to death by communists in Kayyur after a police action. He also allegedly threatened officers, asking them to remember that they also had a family. The case was registered based on Kerala Police Act Section 117 C. After the judgement, he appeared before the court and obtained bail.
