A former teacher at Westminster High School has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a student.

Benjamin Forbes, 30, is suspected of sexual assault on a child by a person in position of trust and sexual assault on a child pattern of abuse, according to the Westminster Police Department.

Police on Thursday were contacted by school administrators about “an incident which occurred between a teacher and a student on the school campus,” police said in a news release.

“Odd behavior” between the suspect and a female student was observed and reported, leading to the arrest of Forbes after further investigation.

Forbes, who taught math at Westminster, is being held at the Adams County jail.

He resigned Thursday, after an internal investigation, according to Westminster Public Schools.

Forbes also served as head boys soccer coach and assistant coach to the boys’ basketball team and girls’ soccer team.
