Hearthstone Card Bug Means Lots of Duplicate Mean Streets of Gadgetzan Cards [UPDATE]

[UPDATE] Blizzard has fixed the problem. As explained in a forum post, a hotfix came out on the Americas server at 2:30 PM PT.

"Players on the Americas server will now see tri-class cards appear at a drop rate that is consistent with other cards of their rarity," Blizzard reported.

The developer also outlined the compensation that affected players will receive.

"Any player on the Americas server who opened Mean Streets of Gadgetzan packs before 2:30PM PT will receive additional Mean Streets of Gadgetzan packs as compensation," the developer said. "The affected players will receive 33% of the total amount of Gadgetzan packs opened before 2:30PM PT, rounded up, to a minimum of one, regardless if the player acquired packs through gold, Quests, or real money. Since cards are generated upon pack opening and not pack purchase, packs purchased before the hotfix but opened after the hotfix will not experience this bug and will not be a part of the compensation roll out."

"This fix will also be added to the release of Mean Streets of Gadgetzan before packs are available to open in all other regions, so players will not be affected by this bug when Mean Streets of Gadgetzan goes live in their region."

"We are currently working on when the compensation will be applied to affected players. We will provide additional updates as they become available."

The original story is below.

Hearthstone's latest expansion, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, launches today. If you're planning on picking up some card packs--or have already preordered the $50, 50-pack bundle--you may want to hold off before opening them.

As relayed by players on Twitter and Reddit, Gadgetzan card packs seem to contain certain cards at an inordinately high rate. Specifically, players are finding themselves with large numbers of tri-class cards, which are a new type introduced in this expansion. While duplicate cards aren't worthless in Hearthstone, opening a pack to find three or four of the same card isn't what people bargained for--not with 132 new cards to obtain.

Blizzard has acknowledged the problem, saying on Twitter that it's currently looking into it. It hasn't yet said what solution it will offer to those affected by the issue--there have undoubtedly been a lot of players eagerly opening packs today before word began to spread.

We'll report back as Blizzard shares more information, but as noted above, you might be best off leaving your packs unopened for the time being.
