Delhi: 400 PCR calls on brawls outside ATMs

Special Commissioner of Police (PCR) Sanjay Beniwal said PCR staff were deployed near ATMs in anticipation of possible disputes during cash withdrawal. “None of the incidents escalated due to the alertness of our staff,” he said.

Police sources said they have made adequate security arrangements outside banks and ATM kiosks.

The station house officers (SHOs) have also been asked to keep a tab and increase the frequency of patrolling during cash replenishment and withdrawal by customers, said a police source.

Joint Commissioner and police spokesperson, Dependra Pathak, said the deployment of police personnel at banks and ATMs will be in place for a few more weeks. “On pay day, several calls were received from ATMs and banks but none of them escalated. Our staff acted swiftly,” he said.
