    UPDATE DEC. 7, 2016: OPERATION WARHORSE WALK HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND WILL NOT BE TAKING PLACE DEC. 8, 2016, DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS. SUPPORT PERSONNEL NEEDED FOR THE WALK HAVE TO BE DIVERTED.

    JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. -- Soldiers of 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 1-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, will conduct Operation Warhorse Walk Dec. 8, 2016, through the JBLM, DuPont, Steilacoom and Lakewood communities to commemorate their lineage.

    The road march will be a 23-mile trek capturing events of the unit’s past with vignettes along the trail. The vignettes will progress chronologically from the Philippines Campaign to the Squadron’s 2011 deployment to Afghanistan. Veterans who served in the past, including retired Maj. Gen. Thomas Cole, will also be participating in the event.

    Soldiers will will conduct visits at Patriot’s Landing retirement community and the American Lake Veterans Administration to give out holiday cards and speak with residents and patients. Soldiers will then make their way back to Rose Field on JBLM for a closing formation and to receive the 1-14 Cav. belt buckle.

    The Soldiers will leave at 6 a.m. from Rose Field, JBLM, and will follow a route that will take them to the following locations (times are approximate):

    1. Powderworks Park, 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
    2. Patriot's Landing, 8:30 a.m.
    3. Range 108/109 (Range complex west of North Fort Lewis), 9:15 and 10 a.m.
    4. Steilacoom Community Center, 10:45 and 11:30 a.m.
    5. American Lake VA, 12:15 and 1 p.m.
    6. Eagleview Community Center 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.

    They will head back and end up at Rose Field on JBLM to receive buckles for successful completion of the march.

    Commuters using DuPont-Steilacoom Road between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. are advised to use caution due to troop movement. Use of alternative routes is advised.
