Chief Minister Harish Rawat visited the Devprayag Assembly constituency to inaugurate the building of newly created Kirtinagar tehsil yesterday. He also laid the foundation stones of several development projects worth Rs 10.76 crore.

He laid foundation stones for the construction of six-km road from Paurikhal to Dhudiyaldhar, re-construction of the Paurikhal-Patawala road, Nyuli-Mathoor Gaon road to convert it from light to heavy vehicle, repair of the Chunnikhal Khangcha road and the construction of 6-km road (second phase) there.

Besides, Rawat announced upgrade of five government high schools to inter college and two junior high schools to high schools in the constituency. He announced the construction of welcome gates at Kirtinagar panchayat limits in the name of legendary figures from Garhwal, namely Nagendar Saklani and Molu Bhardari. He gave approval for the Naula-Tegad road construction and also announced the inclusion of Romdhar and Jakhed nyay panchayats in Kirtinagar tehsil.

Over 35 teachers and social activists were felicitated on the occasion.

The Chief Minister, while addressing the gathering, said four things, namely agriculture, education, crafts and local culture and tourism, were important to put the state on the path of development. “The opening of tehsil at Kirtinagar will benefit over 45,000 persons from around 84 gram panchayats under eight nyaya panchayats. All villages will be linked with roads till 2018,” he said.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani demanded the district status for Devprayag. He demanded funds for all projects the Chief Minister had announced.

Tehri District Magistrate Indudhar Baudai and ADM Shiv Kumar Barnawal were present on the occasion.
