Dr Bheem Rao Ambedkar University: Affiliated colleges to remain shut for two days over ‘mismanagement’

Dr Bheem Rao Ambedkar University: The protestors wanted the university to show records of results and marksheets that have been distributed so far.

PRIVATE AND SELF-FINANCED colleges affiliated to Agra’s Dr Bheem Rao Ambedkar University will remain shut on December 2 and 3, as a mark of protest against the varsity, which has been facing allegations of mismanagement. General secretary of Self-Financed College Association, Ashutosh Pachauri, said while the university is yet to declare results of almost 60 colleges across Agra and Aligarh zones, in which around 50,000 students study, it was are adamant on holding the convocation.

“They have not declared results in 60 colleges of Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Etah, Hathras, Mainpuri, Firozabad and Kasganj districts. Yet, the convocation was planned. What if tomorrow a student, whose result is pending, gets more marks than the current gold medallist? Is it correct to carry on with the convocation… it should be held only after all results have been declared and marksheets distributed,” he added.

Faculty members and officials of the colleges staged a protest outside the vice-chancellor’s office on Thursday, leading to the arrest of Pachauri and Brijesh Chauhan, Sonu Yadav and Ajay Tiwari — all owners of self-financed colleges.

The protestors wanted the university to show records of results and marksheets that have been distributed so far. “We are on hungerstrike even in police lock-up… will continue even if we are sent to jail. Such mismanagement is not acceptable,” said Chauhan.

Meanwhile, the university is set to again print degree certificates for students. Earlier certificates were found printed in a combination of Hindi and English. Several MPhil and final-year students staged demonstration at university’s Khandari campus on Thursday demanding cancellation of the convocation unless the mistake was corrected.

Festive offer

Amid all this, a third-year law student, who was earlier shortlisted for three medals — to be handed over on December 3 — was found to have received 1,055 out of 900 marks in exams. Neetu Kumari, a student of Agra College, had cleared law third-year examination in 2015. She had scored 2,173 marks out of 2,800 in her overall LLB course. With 77.6% marks, she was shortlisted for three medals in different categories. But her second-year marksheet, uploaded on the varsity website, shows that she was awarded 150 extra marks. Following a complaint, revised results were announced with Neetu getting 1,660 marks.

When contacted, University Registrar K N Singh said, “It is a calculation mistake, which took place at the level of private agency hired to prepare results. We are making suitable amendments. Now, another student of Agra College is the highest scorer, with 2,009 marks.”

“Results of all courses have been declared for the current academic session. Results that are pending are of previous academic sessions — 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15… Everything is at place and the convocation will be held on December 3,” he added.
