Government to spend Rs 60 crore to build 78 guest houses

Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge on Thursday told the Legislative Assembly  that 78 guest houses (Yatri Nivas) would be constructed at a cost of Rs 59.55 crore.

Replying to Manappa Vajjal (Cong), the minister said the department had set aside Rs 32.05 crore for this in 2016-17. A guest house was being constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh at Sajjalgudda village in Lingsugur taluk of Raichur district, he added.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait said that as funds for aided schools have been reduced, an alternative arrangement would be made if problems crops up because of this. He was replying to Puttanna (JD-S) in the Legislative Council.

Sait said that salary cuts and other measures are being implemented in the department under various sections of the Karnataka Education Act. The government is not taking any measures that would affect Kannada medium schools, he said.

Currently, there are 2,164 schools where the number of students is less than 10, while 272 schools have only one student. He also said that the government was not giving permission to new schools arbitrarily.
