AHMEDABAD: An accused in the Bharuch double murder case,
Saiyed Imran Qadri was released on default bail by a
metropolitan court in connection with another case in which he was arrested for
illegal possession of arms.
This case was registered by
Naroda police last year when Qadri was arrested with a pistol and six cartridges when he was nabbed for the offence of killing of two Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders, Shirish Bangali and Pragnesh Mistry in Bharuch on November 2, 2015.
Qadri was arrested by the Anti-terrorist squad (ATS) on September 25 on basis of transfer warrant from the judicial custody. More than 60 days passed since his arrest, but cops did not file a chargesheet in stipulated time period. This led Qadri to seek default bail, which was granted by the court. However, he will not come out of jail because of his judicial custody in the Bharuch double murder case.
NIA claims that murders in Bharuch were committed to strike terror in the heart of the Hindus by targeting particularly those who played an active role in the
2002 riots. The conspiracy was hatched by communicating through social media, voice mails etc. However, the chargesheets do not establish that Bangali had in any manner participated in the
communal riots.
