9 for 56 - ISL's biggest goal-fests

With FC Goa securing a 5-4 victory over Chennaiyin FC to create the record for the most goals in an ISL match, here's a look at the top scoring games in the ISL.

FC Goa 7-0 Mumbai City FC

Nehru Stadium, Margao, November 17, 2015

This match remains the gold standard in terms of lopsided contests in ISL history. Mumbai City actually came into this game with a 2-0 win at home against Goa, but were blown away by the aggression from the home side, for whom Dudu Omagbemi and Thongkhosiem Haokip both struck hat-tricks. The scoring - and the embarrassment for player-coach Nicolas Anelka, who had started the game and pushed Sunil Chhetri wide - was completed by Reinaldo in the last minute of regulation time.

FC Pune City 4-3 Delhi Dynamos FC

Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Pune, November 18, 2016

One of the contenders for the match of the 2016 season, Delhi Dynamos were given the lead by Kean Lewis through a first-half goal, which also happened to be the 400th in ISL history. Pune fought back through an Anibal Zurdo brace and a goal from marquee Mohamed Sissoko to lead 3-1. Delhi scored again from an Eduardo Ferreira own goal, before Lenny Rodrigues put Pune virtually out of sight with very little time left on the clock. Substitute Malswamzuala put in a third goal for the visitors, and made the hosts wait for the final whistle to breathe a sigh of relief.

Chennaiyin FC 5-1 Mumbai City FC

Nehru Stadium, Chennai, October 28, 2014

The first meeting between the two sides in ISL history produced the best of the Elano Blumer-Stiven Mendoza collaboration, with the duo chipping in with two goals apiece. Both of Elano's goals came from set-pieces, one a penalty and the other a free-kick conversion. Jeje Lalpekhlua also scored in the first half, and Syed Rahim Nabi's 87th-minute goal was the only thing to write home about for Mumbai coach Peter Reid.

Mumbai City FC 5-1 NorthEast United FC

DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, October 28, 2015

It was an even contest till the 40th minute, with a delightful Boithang Haokip free-kick for NorthEast United cancelling out an early Sunil Chhetri goal for Mumbai City. Chhetri's combination play with Sony Norde on the night was exceptional though, as he picked up goals either side of half-time to become the first Indian to score an ISL hat-trick. The rout was completed by Norde and his fellow-member of the Haiti national team Frantz Bertin.

Delhi Dynamos FC 5-1 FC Goa

Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, November 27, 2016

FC Goa were already out of contention for the playoffs, and that lack of pressure showed early on, as defender Fulganco Cardozo followed up on an attack late in the first half to earn Goa a 1-0 lead, which was cancelled out by Marcelo Pereira going into half-time. Goa were overrun by the ferocity of the Delhi attacking line early in the first half. Pereira and Ricard Gadze shared the spoils of four goals inside nine minutes equally, and Delhi went into history as the first team to finish a league season with an unbeaten record at home.

Delhi Dynamos FC 3-3 Kerala Blasters FC

Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, December 3, 2015

A match where both teams were devoid of pressure for entirely opposite reasons - Delhi Dynamos had virtually assured themselves a place in the playoffs, while Kerala's disappointing season meant they would not be in the top four. Gustavo dos Santos struck early for the hosts, before Kerala came back through goals by Chris Dagnall, Joao Coimbra and Antonio German. Delhi were given hope by an Adil Nabi strike inside a minute of going 3-1 down, but it took a scorching long-ranger from Sehnaj Singh in injury time to maintain what was then an unbeaten home record for Delhi. By the Delhi bench, Roberto Carlos afforded himself an approving, yet sheepish, smile.

Delhi Dynamos FC 3-3 Mumbai City FC

Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, October 18, 2016

After a dour start to the 2016 season, it took a second-half comeback from hosts Delhi to ignite the early part of the season after falling behind 3-1 thanks to a Krisztian Vadocz brace. Richard Gadze, who had brought Delhi back from 2-0 first, then burst into energy in the last quarter of an hour, helping Badara Badji and Marcelo Pereira find a way back for Delhi.

Chennaiyin FC 3-3 NorthEast United FC

Nehru Stadium, Chennai, November 26, 2016

Perhaps the most dramatic match of the 2016 season, where Dudu Omagbemi and Chennaiyin kept pulling themselves ahead, while Nicolas Velez kept pegging NorthEast United back into the contest. Chennaiyin needed a win to keep themselves in contention, while NorthEast were desperate to salvage something out of their trip to the Marina Arena. Eventually, Shouvik Ghosh rose above a sea of Chennaiyin defenders with one of the last plays of the match to head home the third equaliser on the night for the visitors. Dudu's hat-trick remains the only one among 12 scored in the ISL that did not lead to his team's victory.

Kerala Blasters 1-5 FC Goa

Nehru Stadium, Kochi, November 29, 2015

Desperate for some solace at the end of a chaotic campaign where they played under three different head coaches, Kerala scored inside 104 seconds of the kick-off through Spanish midfielder Pulga. Goa would equalise soon through Jofre Gonzalez, and then Reinaldo weighed in with what was the eighth hat-trick of the ISL season. Mandar Rao Desai would score Goa's fifth with 27 minutes left on the clock, and it then seemed Zico's team put the foot off the pedal to prevent any further embarrassment for the Kochi faithful.
