Warriors' Stephen Curry won't rule out signing with his hometown Hornets in 2017

When asked if Curry would sign with Hornets in the summer, he said, "I don't know"

It would take an enormous mistake for the Golden State Warriors to allow Stephen Curry to walk this summer when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Curry has repeatedly responded to rumors about his upcoming free agency by saying that he would love to remain with Golden State. The two-time MVP has acknowledged though, that there could be a few curveballs in free agency that could potentially cause him to leave the Warriors.

One such curveball could come from the Charlotte Hornets, the team that his father Dell Curry played for and currently works for as a broadcaster. Curry grew up in Charlotte and still has ties to the area as he owns a house in the city. Could the Hornets actually be a viable option for Curry in free agency? Well, he won't definitely say no.

From Curry's interview with Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer:

I asked Steph point-blank if he would consider going to Charlotte in the summer of 2017.
"I don't know," he said.
He then went on to imply that at an unspecified point earlier in his career a "Steph in Charlotte" scenario might have been more possible, saying "obviously I had a strong tie to Charlotte and would have loved to play there. I'm very comfortable in that city. It's hard to say exactly what the situation will be this summer."

The main takeaway from this, is like the rest of us, Curry can't predict the future and doesn't want to rule anything out. You never know what could happen in free agency. What if the Hornets offer Curry everything to come home to Charlotte? Could Curry pass up such a lucrative offer to play in his hometown?

Of course it is impossible to predict what Curry will do, but it seems unlikely that he will leave the Warriors. Even if the Hornets gave him the richest contract in the history of the NBA, the Warriors will do everything in their power to match or come close to it. Plus the Warriors have one main advantage over the Hornets -- they are a championship contender and Curry has the luxury of playing alongside three All-Star caliber players in Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green.

Curry is in a perfect situation with Golden State and although as Kevin Garnett once said anything is possible, it just seems unfathomable that he won't re-sign with the Warriors in the summer.
